Practices and Production

It's as important to us as it is to you that our products are manufactured ethically from start to finish - and that, when you buy Pams, you know that you are making a positive choice not just for you but for your community.

This means fair labour practices, animal welfare certifications and careful auditing of our production, while ensuring our prices remain affordable to all New Zealanders. Read on to find out what we are doing now to ensure that Pams products meet your standards and expectations - and where our journey will take us as part of our ongoing commitment to ethical practices and production.

Animal welfare

We are committed to working with our suppliers to ensure that all Pams animal products are produced in accordance with best practice animal welfare requirements, such as supporting the five freedoms which include: freedom from hunger or thirst; freedom from discomfort; freedom from pain, injury, or disease, freedom to express most normal behaviour, freedom from fear and distress.

All suppliers are required to meet or exceed regulatory requirements including New Zealand’s Animal Welfare Act and MPI Codes of Welfare - however this is just the beginning of our journey, and we are working on a suite of Animal Welfare Policies that build on this base.  The first one to be developed is our Animal Welfare Policy for Cage Free Eggs, which focuses on the wellbeing of layer hens.

Pams eggs

We are committed to working with suppliers to ensure that Pams eggs, and eggs used as ingredients in Pams products meet key animal welfare requirements and are independently verified as cage free. We work with Oritain to independently verify the origin and authenticity of our eggs. You can also check the origin of our free range eggs using Trace My Egg.

All Pams eggs are cage free, and it is our goal that, by 2025, all Pams products using eggs as an ingredient will be verified cage-free and traceable to their origin.

Modern slavery position

Modern slavery refers to situations of exploitation that a person cannot leave due to threats of violence, coercion, deception and/or abuse of power. This includes forced or bonded labour, child labour and migrant labour exploitation.

Using the Sedex platform and independent ethical audits to evaluate suppliers and manufacturers of our products, we also require suppliers to engage with their upstream suppliers to ensure that our standards are met at every level of the supply chain.

We are committed to identifying and eliminating modern slavery within our product supply chains, and ensuring that everyone involved in the production of Pams products is safe and treated with dignity and respect.
